select value in table

So... for something different.

I created the following in a custom column:

VAR a1
=
SELECTCOLUMNS(
   filter ( 'Case History'
      , and (
         'Case History'[CaseId] = 'Case'[Id]
         , 'Case History'[CreatedById] <> "005i0000007bCWhAAM"
         )
      )
   , "Date2" , 'Case History'[CreatedDate]
   , "User3" , 'Case History'[CreatedById]
   )
VAR a2
= MINX( a1 , [Date2] )
VAR a3
= filter ( a1 , [Date2] = a2 )
RETURN
...

So at VAR a3 I've created a table where field "User3" contains 1 value, the one I want... but it is text. How do I select this one?

Juse use a MAXX or MINX on that single row table, if I understand what you are saying.

When I tried it, it didn't work and BI suggested it was due to string value. Now this Super User comes along and suggests my earlier thought and it just does somehow work.... how....? (rhetorical)

@Greg_Deckler  Thanks Greg.

I was wondering because it seemed like you had done that for VAR2. Perhaps you used a numerica aggregation before like SUMX?

I think it is most likely that I made an error in my context which made it happen that one of the applied filters wasn't working, thus you would have multiple results. Something that might break it, I assume.
