replacing data source

Hi,

We will be building out PowerBI reports and using Hadoop and hive as backend. We will be moving to cloud in the nextfew weeks. Will I be able to replace the data source from an onpremise setup to cloud and not have the reports break?

Is there a way to just point to tables in PowerBI, rather than load the data in?
Is yes will I be using  get data > query ?

If you don't need to import the data to power bi, you can use Direct Query/Live Connection, however, this depends on your data source because some data source only suppport import mode. For more details about data connection, you may refer to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-data-sources.
