refresh without on-premise gateway

Hi!

I have a report with google sheets as a data source. How can I refresh it without installing a gateway? As if I install gateway on my computer, the report won't refresh when the computer is shut.

Appreciate you help!

Maria

Ok, I found out the solution. It turned out to be super easy.

Thanks to this video.

The link should be to an excel or csv file (as shown in the video). What I did is I copied link to html.

I hope that it will help someone like me)))

You need to have the source files in a cloud service such as OneDrive and reference the source to the online url in Desktop. Once published, the report will update directly

This video explains how with Excel files

@PaulDBrown Thanks for the video! Can I do that with google drive instead?

Google sheets are not locally stored..

It should also work on Google Drive

@PaulDBrown it doesn't seem to work.. still returns an error until the gateway is on

If it's returning a request for a Gateway, the source URL is probably not set up correctly. It has to be the URL for the online file (and the access credentials to the file must be correct)
Here is Microsoft documentation on different refresh options based on how the connection is set up

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-data

and specifically on online sources

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-desktop-file-onedrive

EDIT: Previously you needed a business Microsoft account to allow for refresh for files stored on OneDrive. I'm not sure if that has changed, and may also affect files on Google Drive.
Apologies, therefore, since I use OneDrive for business.
