"Microsoft Access: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.

I am using 64 bit Power BI desktop and have 64 bit Access 2016 installed.  How do I get Power BI Desktop to access the Access db?

You may need the 32 bit data provider installed as well.

Thank you!

Although I do not understand why I had to install AccessDatabaseEngine_X64 when the Access version I already had install is 64 bit.

The data providers are different to the application itself.  The data providers allow loading of the data without the application - they are stand alone.
