power bi embedded maximum pbix file size capacity

Hi All,

I have the dashboard ready to publish in Power BI services, but due to a huge file size around 1GB, cant publish in Power BI services, we have using the Power BI Embedded functionality for our dashboards.

So please tell me what is the size limit of .pbix file to publish in services.

Also, I would like to ask, can we create the dashboard using only one year(to reduce the file size) then publish it to services, and then can we refresh it up to last 2 years and next 1 year(Auto refresh) using Power BI PRO and Embedded.

Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous

As mentioned by @parry2k , you probably have to trim your data model down.

I have struggled with this before and built a tool, PBI Spy, to help identify columns in a data model that are not used by measures, relationships, visuals or filters. It can potentially save you a lot of effort in your attempts to reduce the size of your model.

You can download a fully functional trial copy from https://www.pbispy.com.

If you do try it out I'd love to get any feedback, either positive or negative.

Good luck,

Chris

@Anonymous 1gb is pretty big size, you should optimize your model, remove any unwanted columns and extra tables (if any). How many records you have in the transaction table? You can always filter data for previous year if it is not necessary for the report.
