new data source

Somewhat new to Power BI.  I've created one tab in Power BI and working fine.  I copied the dashboards to other tabs and need different sources.  Problem is the new sources never update my dashboard.  It remains at 04-01-2021.  These are all excel files.  No idea what the "the key didn't match any rows in the table means".  I went to file/settings/options and change the source data but data never updates on the new tabs.  I'm at a loss.  thanks in advance.

Hi @bryanschmidt

If you copy a tab in Power BI Desktop and paste it onto another tab in the same file, both of two tabs are using the same data source. When you change the data source in Data source settings, you are just replacing the current Excel file with a new one. If the columns from two Excel files have different names, you will see the column not found and key not match error.

If you want to add another new data source into the same report, you could connect to the new Excel file from Get data > Excel. After loading the new table into the model, you will see a second table in the Fields panel. Then you could switch to the second tab, select corresponding fields from the second table to replace the existing fields in visuals on the tab. If you use measures, you will need to change the names of tables referenced in them. In this way, the two tabs in a report are using data from different Excel files. Is this what you want to achieve?

Additionally, if you want to use data from different Excel files in a report and these files have the same table sturcture, you can consider keeping them in a folder and combining them into a table. (Reference: Power Query Get Files from a Folder) This would be easier. Then you can use this table to create the report and filter the data on different tabs by different dates. (Reference: Add a filter to a report in Power BI)

Hope this helps.
