modelling settings

Is there any way I can change default settings around how fields are represented? For example, I build a lot of models with different date fields in tables, and every time I pull a new date field into a table in a report, I have to Change from hierarchy to showing the actual date, and then change the date format from (dddd,MMMM,d,yyyy) to (M/d/yyyy). Can I change settings somewhere so it just always pulls the dates in the way I always want them to appear?

Re: modelling settings

Hi ivan_larson_cki, It seems that you want desktop to change the date format from (dddd,MMMM,d,yyyy) to (M/d/yyyy) automatically, right? As I know, the default date format in powerbi desktop is based on your machine local date time(it will use long date as default date format in powerbi ), so if you want to change it automatically, you need to make sure your long date format in region setting of your machine is M/d/yyyy. Re: modelling settings

Thanks, that solves half the problem as I now have the date automatically listed in M/d/yyyy once I change to a date format.

Is there also a way to have dates default to showing the date in one column in a table, rather than showing the date hierarchy each time?
