I am new to this and struggling with a measure.
I need to know the minimum sales value of each item number (and maximum); plus the average sales value by each item number. Can someone please help? TIA

It's not that hard. And, what's important, to perform this analysis you don't need to write a single line of code :-)
See the video I've just produced to show how this can be done (no sound):
The simple way is create a table visual with multiple total sales columns and switch its summary mode to show different result:
Notice: you should setting the item to 'don't summarize' before these operations.
In addition, you can also use summarize function to summary the records:
Summary table = SUMMARIZE(Sheet4,[Item],"Min",MIN(Sheet4[Total Sales]),"Max",MAX(Sheet4[Total Sales]),"Average",AVERAGE(Sheet4[Total Sales]))
