matrix table: sort columns in descending order
01-22-2017 12:05 PM - edited 01-22-2017 12:06 PM
I too have this issue. It is common that when using Dates as Columns to have the most current on the left and decend to the right.
same topic:
In the table view I have designated the Date field as the 'Sort by Column' and it views with descending dates - but the Matrix is ascending column order left to right, and the preferred order is to descend with most current data on left....
I admit that there should be a possibility to sort them by the visual, but there is a workarround if you are only talking about some field.
I'm working with Azure SSAS so what did I do. Create a field in the data dimension that is 0-YYYYMMDD AS iYMD_Desc, Duplicated the Date Field as TheDate_Desc and Made the TheDate_Desc sorted by iYMD_Desc.
Works in Matrix
Hi @CahabaData,
Based on my research, there is no OOTB feature for us to sort matrix column group values. You can vote on this same idea: Ability to sort data in matrix table.

I believe there is a terminology misunderstanding: the need is the column order of the Matrix visual to be descending
In my example, and other Q&As I've read - the wish is that the must current date to be first most left, and then past dates to the right. The user experience is that the most left column is the most current, and therefore the most important, and that further to the right columns lessen in relevance.
The attempt to achieve this today as been an experiment based on the table view to have the Date field sorted in descending order. However that sort does not affect the column order in the Matrix visual.
