line chart categorical x axis - showing a target

Hi all,

I'm looking to show a line as a target on a column chart - something like this which my client gave me:

The green line is the target percentage. I could use the clustered column chart but it doesn't emphasise the actual vs target sense of this visual. I found the Dumbbell custom visual - but it seems broken at the moment, and anyway doesn't seem quite right.

BTW, the X axis is categorical so a line chart won't do. Has anyone found something like this, or perhaps another visual that provide similar? None of the KPI visuals seems to provide a solution either.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

I was assuming that you only wanted a single live for the first column, in this way you can do the following:

  • Options
  • Shapes
  • Stroke with = 0
  • Show Marker = On
  • Marker Shape = -
  • Marker size = 20

It will give you the result below.

Hi @ Belvoir,

You could use the bar and line chart combo. If you don't want the line to go over all columns of the chart you should use a measure to calculate your target and use it in the line.

Hi @MFelix

That sounds interesting - I tried using a column and line chart combo. The column works for categorical items but the line doesn't as it joins up each point - so how would using a measure deliver a single and separate line for each categorical item on the x axis?
