how to prevent data conversion?

We have data that has a lot of product codes. We import the data to an Excel spreadsheet to preserve the text values so they aren't converted to dates or scientific notation.

Power BI Desktop opens those spreadsheets and auto converts everything to nonsense.

Am I missing a setting or is there another technique to do this?

thanks,

RickH

Just remove your "Changed type" step in your query or otherwise just specify the type of data that you want it to be for the various columns.
