how to make certain columns in my report hidden for different group of users ?

Hi guys

We have some sensitive , personal identifier information in our database. I just want to retrict access to this info for certain groups of users based on their department/roles etc.

At the moment, I am getting data from sql database in to power BI.

Thanks

You'll need to have Power BI Service/O365 (not report server) for this to work:

  1. Click "manage roles" from modeling tab in Power BI Desktop
  2. Create roles and assign filters to those roles (i.e. Accounting role with "Department = "Accounting"" means people in the "Accounting" role will only see row-level data with accounting as the department is visible)

  3. Save and publish your report
  4. Open your report in the browser
  5. Under "datasets" click the ellipses next to your data and then "Security"
  6. You should see the roles you've just created
  7. Assign people or groups to those roles and "Save"

I just tried this solution but it did not work

Here is what I did...

I wanted to protect 'Salesperson name' column  from certain users. So in my DAX expression, i create a role called Salesperson as  '[Salesperson name] = "Value"

and then I added a couple of users for this role in app.poweBI security

Essentially what I want is , only a certain group of users should see this 'Salesperson  name' field

please help
