how to ignore filter on a field that is used in 2+ visuals

I have a matrix visual with fields:

Category (on Rows)

Sector (on Columns)

Total Sales (Values)

Category also appears in another visual.  I want Total Sales to ignore all filters except for ones that I specifically apply in the measure definition.  So, I implemented something like:

Total Sales =
CALCULATE(
    SUM('Fact Sales'[Sale Amount])
    ,ALLEXCEPT(

        'Fact Sales'

        ,'Dimension Product'[Category]

        ,'Dimension Product'[Sector]

    )

    ,'Dimension Employee'[Employee Type] = "Full Time"

)

[Category] and [Sector] are necessary in the ALLEXCEPT because they are the fields used as Rows / Columns in the matrix visual.  However, because [Category] appears in another visual, then filtering on this field in this visual impacts the matrix visual, which is precisely the behavior I'm trying to avoid.  How can I circumvent this?

One idea is to create a copy of [Category] and use that field in the matrix visual (both on Rows and in the measure definition) (and still use the original [Category] field in the other visual).  However, I suspect that this is bad practice because it will increase the size of the data model.

Seems like using the Edit Interactions feature might solve the issue. Have you tried that?

@mahoneypat

I have not considered that.

I didn't mention this in my original post, but the [Category] field also appears in my filter pane.  From what I know, the 'Edit Interactions' feature doesn't apply to the filter pane.  So, I need a different solution.
