I know that I can use the web connector.  But I was also interested to learn how to use the github connector.

I will accept the solution even if there is no solution provided due to the fact that you have reported this issue internally and that you will come back to me with a solution in a near future.

Best regards,

Sorry for any inconvenience. Currently, you could use web connector as a workaround.

I successfully connected to the data source via web connector which was advised in this thread. However, when uploading the PBI file to the PBI.COM and set a scheduled refresh, it always failed, saying :

"We're sorry, an error occurred during evaluation.;The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified The system cannot find the file specified. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface."

I tried add a credential (login credential to Github) and some others, but the error lingers on.

Does anyone know how to fix the issue??

Thanks,

Hello,

You are connecting via an web connection.  This was my second solution.

I wish that someone show me how to use the github connection with the proposed data set, just to see how it works.

So, if someone is really confortable with the use of the github connection, please let me know how to do it.

Regards,

Good morning,

Thanks a lot for reporting this issue internally.  As we are still waiting to get a solution from the team responsible of Power BI,

should I reply, accept it as a solution while the solution is not available?

What do you suggest?

Hello

I do have the same trouble with this github https://github.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19

I tried to use the connector but it doesnt allow to download/expand the files content.

Did you find any solution to do it ?

Thanks for your help

looking for the same thing, were you able to connect and use the data somehow?

for example

https://github.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/blob/master/csse_covid_19_data/csse_covid_19_time_series/...

Hi @nalhemyari / @Anonymous  any success with connection to COVID-19 data?

Hello,

I have received so much help from the community .  Now, I am able to help at least for this question.

First point.  If you would like to test the github connector, I will refer you to that page : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-connect-to-github   , which explain in details how to connect a githubsite.  There is also a Pbix file that you can download.

In this example, it refer to the following github site: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/powerbi-docs

It will be a good thing to visit that site, just to see how it looks like.   So, in tha above URL, MicrosoftDocs is the owner and powerbi-docs, the repository.

If you are interesed by the covid-19 site, there is a video on youtube which explain how to get the data by using a web connector not a github connector.  Here's the url for the video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWHIJikCw-8

The author of this video explain the various steps to get this url

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/master/csse_covid_19_data/csse_covid_19_ti...

Then you go in Power Bi , getdata, select a web connector, and copy and paste the url https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/master/csse_covid_19_data/csse_covid_19_ti... and you will get the data

Good luck!

@Anonymous   Thank you a lot! I hope that one day I will be able to pay my debt to community as well 😉

Try to use  raw.githubusercontent.com  url mode

example

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/master/csse_covid_19_data/csse_covid_19_ti...    in  text/csv  get data.
