gantt chart - not from custom visuals

Is there a way to create gantt chart manually (not using custom visuals)?

I need it to be saved as pdf.

Here is how it's work in excel:

I need similar workaround.

I need to show gantt charts saved to pdf format. Gantt charts from custom visuals (and every other custom visuals) could not be exported to pdf. Is there an option to do a Gantt chart manually?

Like here in excel:

I am looking for a similar workaround.

Hi @bartek_wachocki,

Based on the video, the way to create a Gantt chart in Excel is to format the Data Series' color in stacked bar chart. For this method, you can also achieve it in Power BI desktop. Please refer to following sample:

Original stacked bar chart:

For formatting: go to Format pane -> Data colors and you'll see the colors of all the data series -> change the color to white:

2222.PNG

Then as I know, currently it is impossible to export Power BI report to pdf format and Power BI REST API has no export operation. But we can print an entire dashboard, a dashboard tile, a report page, or a report visual to PDF from Power BI service.

Hi Xi,

Thanks for support. Maybe I was not precise.

The idea is to publish the Gantt chart to Power Bi Services and then export to pdf. Sorry I did not mention about it.

As I know custom visuals cannot be exported to pdf, right?

So that why I try another way to build this chart

The example you shared is partially right. Gantt charts used to have dates in axis x.

I could not reproduce the chart using dates.

Consider this data set:

TaskStart dateDays to compleate
task123.03.201813
task225.03.20185
task330.03.201823
task406.04.201845
task507.04.201812
task608.04.20187
task709.04.20186
task810.04.201845
task911.04.201833

Hi @bartek_wachocki,

=> The idea is to publish the Gantt chart to Power Bi Services and then export to pdf. As I know custom visuals cannot be exported to pdf.

I know you want to export report on Power BI Service. And no, not only custom visual cannot be exported to pdf. Also as I said above currently it is impossible to export Power BI report to pdf format and Power BI REST API has no export operation. But we can print an entire dashboard, a dashboard tile, a report page, or a report visual to PDF from Power BI service.

=> I could not reproduce the chart using dates.

You should know that Power BI desktop is different from Excel. Also the Stacked Column Chart in Power BI is different from the one in Excel. So with more complicated dataset, we cannot format stacked column chart to create gantt chart. If you want to create gantt chart, please try custom Gantt visual

Thanks,
Xi Jin.

Thanks v-xjiin-msft

I have found quite recent post about publishing custom visuals.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-publish-to-powerpoint

I see a light in a tunnel, cos most recenty export as microsoft call it "Certified custom visuals" is available:

"Certified custom visuals are supported. A certified custom visual has been approved for use with Power BI, meets certain code requirements, and has passed strict security tests. You can learn more about certified custom visuals."

It is about export to Power Point but having Power Point presentation it is easy to save it as pdf.

I have not tested it yet but it seems promising
