find/jump to record in list

Hello,

I have a large table that lists out client names and information about the client and ranks information about the clients.  Our users want to be able to search for and jump to a record in the list.

For e.g. say the list is 10,000 rows.  Client ABC is on row 3,250.  the users want to be able to find client ABC and go to that row in the list.

If we set up a slicer, we can use a search box in the slicer to find the client name, but then when you select the value, the table will be filtered by that client name.  This doesn't help, because the user wants to see the client at row 3250  and compare it to the other records around that selection (the list ranks info and the users may want to see where the client sits in the ranking).

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous,

By my tests, it seems that there is no good way for us to search for the client name and jump to a record in the list.

You could post your new idea in Power BI idea forum and add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.

For the workaround, if you want to compare with other records with a rule. For example, You want to compare three records around customer ABC. You could create a measure. If you has filter the client name, it will show the records about client and the other records around this client.

For another option, you could create a index column for your ranks information. Then you could create two Slicers. One is for search for the Client name, the other is for filter the index range. When you filter the Client, you will see the index of the information. Then you could set a range in between Slicer with index.

Hope this can make any sense for you!

Thank you.  Our conclusion was option #1 you offered as well.  I like the idea of adding the index too.  Thanks for your help.

May I point out the "Attribute Slicer" in the PowerBI Marketplace?  This is hardly the Jump-to you requested, but it's a fast way to see all the rows from someone buried deep in a long table.  We use this a lot to allow speedy filtering by US State, but it works for our fields with a long list of entries.
