disable update notifications

I'm trying to disable all Update Notifications in Power BI Desktop. There appears to be 2 notifications. Hopefully there are not more because I need to keep everyone on the same version and I have some users that do have Admin rights that are installing every time there is a new update and that is causing us problems.

1. The notification in the System Tray is being disabled when installing with the following msiexec.exe" /i "PBIDesktop_x86_JAN.msi" /qb /norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1

2. In the lower right corner of the Power BI Desktop Application there is another notification that says, "UPDATE AVAILABLE (CLICK TO DOWNLOAD)"

I am trying to get rid of #2 and have not been successful.  How do I get rid of that message in the application?

Re: disable update notifications

Hi @jmoody76,

This is what i use in production. With latest version of Power BI this issue""UPDATE AVAILABLE (CLICK TO DOWNLOAD)" is fixed.

msiexec /i "PBIDesktop_x64.msi" /qn /norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1

As mentioned in the last reply of @rsrajeev in this similar thread, with latest version of Power BI this issue""UPDATE AVAILABLE (CLICK TO DOWNLOAD)" is fixed. Could you go to check if it is the case in your scenario. Smiley Happy

Regards

Re: disable update notifications

I used the June 2017 release 2.47.4766.542. A newer one then this fixes it?

Re: disable update notifications

Hi @jmoody76,

Currently, the latest version of Power BI Desktop is 2.47.4766.801 64-bit (June 2017).

Base on my understanding, if you use the following script to install this version of Power BI Desktop, then both notifications will be disabled. @jmoody76, could you help to confirm this? Smiley Happy

msiexec /i "PBIDesktop_x64.msi" /qn /norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1
