data refreshment in Power BI

Hi,

There are quite some buttons in Power BI wichi can trigger data refreshments. I'm trying to summarize my understanding of the triggers as below. It will be great if PB pros can review if my summary is correct.

1. In Power Query module, when I click "apply and close", synchronization will take place from source data to visuals in the Reporting view. In other words, if I have changed data source or updated power queries, there is no need to click "refresh" button in the Report view.

If my understanding is correct, why there is another refresh button in the Report view?

2. Each time I publish a report to Power BI Service, PB online will synchronize data from source files to visuals online. In other words, my Power BI desktop file might contain old data, but once the report is published , data will be refreshed online.

3. When a gateway is installed and data refreshments are scheduled, synchronization from source data to visuals online takes place as scheduled.

4. When I publish a report using direct query mode, synchronization between source data and visuals takes place only when I click into one visual. However, the synchronization results is not stored. In other words, if I close the report and reopen it, I still see old results in the visuals.

So how can I make sure visauls online remain up to date? Do I have to click the refresh icon in my browser to get up-to-date visuals?

Hi  @Jeanxyz ,

1. Whether you click "apply and close" in the power query or click the refresh button in the Report view, the native language is converted to the language of the data source, data is obtained from the data source, and the data is refreshed.
2. When you publish the report of Power BI Desktop to Power BI Service, the data on Power BI Desktop at that time will be sent to Power BI Service, so that the data of Power BI Service is refreshed, and Power BI Desktop is still the old data at that time , Did not refresh.

3. If you ensure that the data is updated, you can configure the gateway to connect the cloud to the data source with credentials, and act as a bridge to ensure the fast and secure connection of the channel. Refresh the configuration plan and configure the specified time to time . If you want to get the data update in the first time, you can get the latest data by clicking the refresh button on the report.

Whether by using Refresh Now or by setting up a refresh schedule, Power BI uses information in the dataset to connect to the data sources defined for it, query for updated data, and then loads the updated data into the dataset.
