@Anonymous  - Make sure that you are covering up the rectangle completely so that it cannot be selected.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You may click Ctrl +  all Card visuals and the Rectangle in the meantime, then right click to choose option "Group". In this way , the cards won't disappear after selecting the rectangle.

@Anonymous ,

Another solution if you publish report to Power BI Service:
1) select shape > format > send backward
2) select cards > format > bring forward
3) unselect visuals on page > create Bookmark (so once clicked on bookmark it will reset page to default - nothing selected)
4) select shape > actions > bookmark > point to this bookmark
Once published to Power BI Service, wherever i click on shape area, charts are always visible and clickable.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Check your rectangle and cards again. Your cards should cover up the rectangle.

Share some screenshots on what you are seeing at your end.

Thanks,

Pragati

@Anonymous ,

You can also create group of visualizations.
Example: you have 3 cards for which you want to add background color. Select all 3 cards, go to Format > Group.
Go to formatting option and you will have option background. Here you can define background color for this group.
* Note: you can not set something like padding, empty space as with rectangle, but you do not have selection issue.

Another solution, add action to shape where you will write tooltip.. something like "Click on chart in order to analyze data. If selection is not available, please click outside of colored area and try again".
