XML test database

L.S.,

Is there somewhere on the Microsoft websites a test database that I can use to test the Power BI connection via XML!?

Kind regards,

Johan

Ehhhh....okay. This is not what I mean. I just want an XML document that connects to a webbased database. To test the Power BI functionality to connect to a database by means of XML statements.

Hi @WensWare ,

Do you mean to connect an online XML file or extract connection string that stored in XML file and use them to connect to an external database?

If as I said, you can take a look at the following solutions if they work:

#1. Connect to an online XML file: Add XML as new entity

#2. Use XML configure to connect to other databases: Using a Txt or XML-File as source-path-replacement

If above not hope, can you please explain more detail about your requirement?

Hi Xiaoxin (@v-shex-msft)

Option #2 is indeed what I want to achieve.

However I want to test this with a live database on the web somewhere!

So is there somewhere on the internet a test database that I can connect to via Power BI in order to test the working of the XML.

If I have some experience in this test connection, I am probably smart enough 🙂 to transfer this to a production database of my client.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Johan.

Hi @WensWare ,

AFAIK, current power bi will cache the table structure into query steps, so it is impossible to use XML configuration to achieve dynamic change between different datasources.(it will display an error message about refreshed record data key not match with store data structure)
