Hello All,
Admin has created a Gateway and used Windows Authentication to create a data Source fro SQL Server . Note Gateway installed in a VM . I can see the data source connection is successfull .
Till now I was making the report in PBI Desktop using a SQL ID authentication mode. So when I published that to service that is not working . So I tried to change the data-source connection in my desktop using that same Windows ID password.
When I edited the same in my desktop , I am getting error like below .
Windows User ID is an AD account like : XYZ\PBI_user
Is it the case that in Direct Query mode, Windows Authentication doesnt work ?? --> https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Direct-Query-On-SQL-Server-on-Windows-Authentication/m-p/30...
Please help !!

What I found is if I use Server-Name (instead of IP) in PBI Desktop , I have to use same Server-Name in the data-source under the Gateway.
Hi @sanjoyleo,
First, it is supported to use Windows Authentication in Direct Query mode.
Then for your error. As it said, your Power BI Desktop cannot recognize this AD account. Since the Gateway and data source are in a VM. And you are creating Power BI reports on your own machine. Right? You should verify that if your own machine and this VM are in one same domain or if you can ping this VM from your own machine.
Then if your machine and this VM are in different domins, you need to establish a trust relationship between the two different domains.
