Wildcard character conditioning

Hello community,

New to powerbi, stuck in a situation. Have this lookup table with 1:many relationship. The source table may have Referral - Employee/ hiring manager/ other in source sub-type and source details may have any name.

Source alignment is Source sub-type&Source details and have the same calculated column in other files.

The challenge is to assign the source type as Referral - Employee if Source alignment is "Referral - EmployeeJohn Smith" or any other name.

Appreciate any help.Wildcard.jpg

can't you just base Source-Type based on the Source-SubType?
in the provided example they seem identical

also, are you looking for DAX or M solution?

if you can use the SubType the problem becomes much simpler, if you need to work with Source Alignment then Text.Start seems like a reasonable option

Thank you for the kudos 🙂
