Why has Microsoft tied our hands to ArcGIS

What was the thought process for limiting our mapping visualizations to ArcGIS? the visual is extremely primitive compared to other tools like Spotfire or Tableu. And just based on community forums for ESRI, they have very limited plans to expand those capabilities. Been one of the more disappointing developments for Power BI, in my opinion, considering how much we rely on spatial analysis.
