Why a new column does not appear in the Query editor?

Hello,

  I extracted the time from a datetime column by calculating a "New column" (button in the "Modeling" tab) with such a formula:

EXPERIMENT_TIME = FORMAT([EXPERIMENT_DATE], "hh:mm:ss")

This works, the column appears in the table in the "Fields" panel. But when I go to the Query editor ("Transform data"), this column is not in the table. Why?

Then I created this column in another way, the one I give in this reply . Here the column is created from the Query editor and it appears in the table of the Query editor as well as in the table of the "Fields" panel. So I have a solution but I would just like to understand why the "New column" method does not create a column accessible in the Query editor.

@Anonymous You created the column directly in the data model. This is post what happens with the Power Query Editor so the Power Query Editor knows nothing about this column.
