I am trying to connect to Hive from Power BI using the Hortonworks Hive ODBC Driver. I send a query from Power BI when I connect to the data source in the "Advanced Options"-> "SQL Statement" box.
Next I see a preview after sometime and see the options "Load", "Edit" and "Cancel" in that. When I say "Load", I first see "Evaluating..." and then "Waiting for DSN=<dsn_name>"
I want to understand what is happening in the backend during:
1. Preview generation
2. "Evaluating" stage
3. "Waiting for DSN" stage.
I looked up in Ambari all the above 3 steps and see a bunch of jobs running but I am not able to undertsand what excatly happening.
Also, my main objective is to reduce the time taken for the data to load. When I query Hive directly from Hive shell, the same query takes about 2 minutes but on Power BI, it takes about 7 minutes. I want to understand the reason for this lag and the different ways to reduce it.
Would highly appreciate some pointers. Thanks in advance!
