What do the Power BI Ideas status mean?

Purpose: Unterstand the "Power BI Ideas" life cycle process.

Background: When an idea is "Started" how long does it typically take for an idea to be implented?  What does each "Power BI Ideas Status" actually mean? Is my interpretation below correct?

Are there any standards around how long an idea sits in each

Status

  • Backlog: Update will not happen in the near future
  • Under Review: Someone at Microsoft is looking into it
  • Escalated: ??
  • Planned: This update will happen
  • Started: Development started
  • Consideration for backlog: ??
  • Completed: Update is complete
  • Not Planned: Update will not happen at all

I have spoken to various people at MS about the ideas. The things I know/believe are

  • the developers and PMs use the list as THE go to list for the work to be done
  • there are no rules around how long things stay in each state
  • you will never get a delivery date from MS (from experience). Committing to dates is just a setup to fail.
  • even ideas with few votes can still get done, so create the idea regardless
  • some ideas are considered good, but are too complex for what ever reason
