Web connector doesn't work - "Index was outside the bounds of the array"

Hi there

When I try to use the web connector (via Get Data -> Web or in the Query Editor -> New Source -> Web) I get an error message as follows:

"Something went wrong. Index was outside the bounds of the array"

I tried using an fresh, empty pbix file and also pbix files containing complete reports.

Power BI Desktop Version: 2.88.1144.0 64-bit (Dezember 2020)

2016 Macbook Pro, macOS Big Sur Version 11.2, using Parallels Desktop Version 16.1.3 (49160)

The same error occurs when I try to connect to a SQL Server.

Many thanks in advance for your help. This is much appreciated!

Hi @Minsen

The next thing I was going to suggest was using a blank query and entering Web.Contents by hand!

Try uninstalling PBID and reinstalling.

Phil

Hi @Minsen

I found a mention of this issue that said clearing the cache fixed it.  Open File -> Options and Settings -> Gloabl -> Data Load and scroll down to clear the cache(s)

Hi @PhilipTreacy

Many thanks for your suggestion. I cleared all three caches, but still no luck; the error re-appears after clearing caches with a fresh/empty or filled-in report file, and also with or without exiting and re-starting Power BI desktop after clearing.

FYI, in the meantime I also tried to use a blank query with

Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents("<Sharepoint Link to Excel Spreadsheet>"))

but after the query was processed, the very same error popped up.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi @PhilipTreacy

Un- & reinstalling PBID solved the issue. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi @Minsen

At what point does this errro occur?  When you choose the connector? When you try to run the query?

What does your Web query step look like?  Please show the code.

regards

Phil

Hi @PhilipTreacy

Many thanks for your assistance!

The error occurs when I choose the connector:

1) Click on Get Data (Text w/ expand sign) --> Click on Web --> Error

2) Click on Get Data (Symbol) --> type Web, click on Web --> Error

3) Click on Get Data (Text w/ expand sign) --> Click on Blank Query --> Wait for Power Query Editor to open --> Click on New Source --> Click on Web --> Error

I have not written a query but only tried to get the Web connector dialog to work via the Power Query Editor, so I cannot provide any code.

Thank you!
