We weren't able to restore the saved database model

Hi

I created a PBI desktop project, I can open it without any issues but my colleague (who has the same version), gets the following error:

"We weren't able to restore the saved database model"

Anyone knows why and how to fix it?

Thanks

As a temp fix you can try disabling the optimized FileSave:

1. Close the PBIDesktop application
2. Control Panel>System>Advanced system settings>Environment Variables
3. User variables... New...
Variable name: PBI_fastLoadSave
Variable value: false
4. Start PBIDesktop and try to open file

(You'll need to remove the environment variable once you install the update)

This worked for me. Thanks very much!

I have similar issue on this, my colleague created a powerbi file, I used to be able to open in the old laptop.

Now I am given a new laptop this morning, freshly installed the new PowerBI off the website download, and I couldn't open that same file anymore.

It is giving the error:" We weren't able to restore the saved database model."

I reinstalled a few times, but it just doesn't work.

We've just encountered the same error after updating to 2.55.5010.521 - we tracked it down to an '&' in the path name.  Moving the .pbix to a different folder opened fine, but then I moved it into a subfolder  /A&B and it failed.  So try moving the .pbix to a different path and see if that helps.

We are working on the fix. We hope to have a solution morning Wednesday, Feb 7th.

Any updates? Still can't open anything on my network drives and I don't have the option of the temporary fix noted upthread.

Thanks, my entire network drive has an ampersand....

Your method does work, tank you very much!

My problem is that my "computer name" has a "&" right inside, so everything in desktop (or dropbox, onedrive, etc.) is not working..

Hope it will be solved soon.

Hi,

I recently created a project on PBI desktop, I can open it without any issues but when my colleague wants to do so he gets the following error:

"We weren't able to restore the saved database model"

We both have the same PBI version.

Anyone has a clue on what happens?

Thanks in advance

Hi @bbfnaro,

I can not reproduce your scenario, what desktop version do you use? Please uninstalling and re-installing the latest version: 2.54.4970.961, and check if it works fine.

Best Regards,
Angelia
