Viz to show report viewer's profile pic from active directory

Hello,

I am currently working on a personal project and am wondering about whether or not I could create a visualization that would show the profile picture of the person currently viewing the report.

Currently, I have a Measure that will display a greeting to the report viewer, e.g. "Hello, John Smith, Welcome to the Reporting Cubicle."    But I was wondering if I could take it a step further and have it display the profile picture instead of the Username?

Regards,

Robert T.

Hi there

You could most certainly do this.

You would need to have the image stored in a Website that you can access.

You could then create a new measure, which can be rendered as a Image. You can select this in the Category for your column or measure.

Hi Gilbert,

I think you've answered my question, but I'm not exactly clear.

My intention was to connect to Active Directory as a data source and attempt to access the profile pictures from there.  Are you saying I would have to add an additional layer of grabbing the photos from the AD, push them to a website I have access to, and then have it a Measure that can grab the photo and render it in the report?

Sorry for the confusion -- I'm just not entirely sure of the steps your proposed solution involves.

Hi there

No worries, I am happy to try and clarify you confusion.

Yes in order for the images to render, they need to be hosted somewhere, where it can be rendered from a URL. This is because Power BI runs basically in your browser, so in order to view those images it runs it from a UR.

If you scroll down in my blog post, you will see how it explains how to get the images working
