VISIO Visual Object Ordering Issues

Hi

I have a Visio layout diagram of our premises.

I have used mainly basic rectangle shapes to define the building structure (i.e. walls, partitions), and these shapes have no fill.

These are all on one layer

I have then added in other coloured basic shapes signifying different areas of the  premises, which are in another layer

These are the objects I have mapped to data and want to select in PBI.

The problem I am having is that once imported into PBI I cannot seem to select the coloured shapes properly, and the reason appears to be related to the fact that they are ordered behind the building structure shapes, though still clearly visible because building shapes have no fill (the coloured shapes can easily be selected in Visio).

For various reasons, I dont want to change the ordering.

So I think PBI is  tring to select the Front most object (i.e. the building structure). To test this I tried hiding the building structure layer (so only coloured shapes are visible), and then everything worked fine.

I have tried to fiddle about with some Developer > Behavior settings in Visio to see if that makes a difference, but havent had any luck.

Any suggestions on how to get around this?

Figured it out...

In Visio:

On the Developer tab, select the Drawing Explorer check box.
In the Drawing Explorer window, right-click the name of the drawing, and then click Protect Document.
In the Protect Document window, select the Shapes check box, and then click OK.

Now select shapes you dont want to be selected (in my case the building structure shapes), then

Developer > Protection > Protect: From Selection > OK

These shapes can now no longer be selected in the PBI Visio visual as well.

Thanks
