Use slicer to filter on a field not used in the visual

I feel like this should be a simple non-issue, but can't make it work and can't find a way to make it work:

I have a data set which includes a column for Airlines. I want to have a slicer which lets the user filter on airline, but airline isn't in the actual visual. I can't find a way to get the filter to work without the field being in the visual, but there has to be a way. Can someone help?

thanks!

Alex

@Anonymous can you share how your tables are related? You are right, airline doesn't need to be on the visual to filter it if your relationship between the tables is correct.

@parry2k It's just a single table, there's no relationship involved. Airline is one of the columns, and if I include it in the table the filter works great, if I don't include it, it won't filter on Airline.

As it turns out, the issue was that without airline data showing, the other columns weren't unique, and it only shows distinct values, and apparently that's the nature of how table visuals work. Seems odd to me, but I think it's ok for these purposes.  Thanks!

@Anonymous hmmm interesting, can you share sample pbix file, remove any sensitive information before sharing.

Unless you have changed the interaction between the slicer and table (Format->Edit Interaction) by mistake, this should not happen
