Update already existing Power BI with new Data formatted like the old

I am a new user of Power BI.

I open Power BI Desktop and via Get Data load an Excel sheet into Power BI.

I get the Excel sheet from an automated process and do not change the data in any way before loading it into Power BI.

I then create a visual display using the loaded data. I save the Power BI file containing the graphic as a pbix file.

What my problem is and what probably has been asked before but I can't find the discussion,

I want to open the “template” and load into the Power BI another Excel Sheet from the automated process where the columns are named the same but the values differ. Power BI should understand the new data and directly update the visual display so I don`t have to build a new visual display for every new Excel Sheet.

There is probably a very easy option but I could not yet find it. Saving power BI as a template and changing the data source using parameters did not work as hoped.

Happy for any suggestions.

Sure, save your PBIX to a new one. Edit your query. Click on the gear icon in your Source step. Change the file path. Save and close the query editor and the query should refresh and everything will update.

Hi @Anonymous,

You can consider to summarized your connection string as parameters, then you can simply change connection string to switch between different datasources.(these source should has same data structure)
