Hi,
Is there any module available in Visual Studio / C# that works with Power BI? I've built a template report linked to SQL Server. The only thing I need to is to update a parameter in the dashboard (The database name in SQL that the dashboard should refer to), and then update the dashboard.
Hi @Anonymous ,
I still have a little confused about your scenario.
Do you want to get data from Visual Studio in Power BI?
If it is, please refer to this similar thread which has been solved.
In addition, do you have query parameter for your data source in your template report?
Do you have problems when you update the report via changing the parameter?
If it is, could you share some screenshots about your Query Editor so that I could understand your situation better?
Best Regards,
Cherry
Hi Cherry,
Thank you for replying. No that's not what I'm after. Let me try to clarify.
We use SQL Server, Visual Studio (C# forms) and Power BI. We receive data from our customers, which comes in a variety of forms, with a high variety of look and feel. Within SQL Server, we map the customer files to our standard data model. Once the data is mapped into the standard model, we have stored procedures in SQL Server that provide the output where a Power BI template is built upon. We call these stored procedures from a C# form. I now want to enhance this C# form, with updating parameters in Power BI. The parameters are used to point to the right files and database. This is needed because we have a strict separation of data between customers. WHen there is a breach, not all customer data is breached. Also, this reduces the chance of having wrong data landing on the wrong desk.
So in summary what I wish to do in Visual Studio, is provide the parameters Path, Server and Database to Power BI, and then execute an update.
Thanks,
Johan
