Unable to use a report that's uploaded to my powerbi.com workspace that contains excel files.

Hi, I have a powerbi report that contains excel files.  The files are on my one drive and others can get to the folder on my laptop.
I uploaded the report into my powerbi workspace and the message says that the data isn't accessible.  Any suggestions?
I'm able to upload reports that contain data from sql server and azure, it just seems to be a problem with Excel (I'm assuming)

Hi @Anonymous ,

Generally speaking, If there is only one data source in the report - Excel in OneDrive, no gateway is required. Please open the Settings pane>Settings>Datasets, select the dataset and check if it shows "You don't need a gateway for the dataset" in the Gateway connection. Then you should Edit credentials in the Data source credentials.

If you have two kind of data sources and the other one is not in the cloud, you need to configure a gateway.

Follow the steps:

  1. Download and install the gateway on a local computer.
  2. Configure the gateway based on your firewall and other network requirements.
  3. Add a gateway data source.

Hi and thanks for the response.  I was able to figure it out and didn't have to create a gateway. The key was setting the properties in the dataset in PowerBI, and configuring the permissions.  Once done, everything worked.
I can't however set up the refresh schedule but it could be that since a partial excel data source, the refresh fails.  And we're not going to be updating any more than once a month.

Thanks for the suggestions!
