Unable to upload desktop created pbix file

cant import data power bi.PNGHi all

I have created a powerbi report via the desktop app and when i try and publish it i get the following message:

Power BI publish error.PNG

So i decided to check the report server anyway and i could see my report uploaded but when i try and open i get the following error message

report server error.PNG

As an alternative method i attempted to upload direct from the server using the import or connect to data option.

This gives me this error:

cant import data power bi.PNG

I can publish and upload another report ive done which file size wise is larger so i have no idea why i cannot upload this report.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi all. Apologies i've been on leave for some time. I fixed the issue by basically just seperating the original pbix report into seperate pages. The original had 6 pages and overall had over 100 queries behind it so i split it out so each one only had the queries needed so around 20 apiece. They all uploaded fine that way.

Hi @addyb77,

From the publishing error, it looks like you failed to publish report to service. However, from your description, it looks like you failded to open report on web portal ( Power BI report server). I need to confirm that:

  • Were you publishing a Power BI report to Power BI service or Power BI Report Server?
  • What data source did this Power BI report connect to?

Hi

I think its the web portal. The url for example is: https://app.powerbi.com/recentlyviewed

Data source is sql server. I have a lot of queries in this particular report that point to numerous sql servers.

Hi @addyb77,

Actually, https://app.powerbi.com/recentlyviewed is the URL for Power BI Service, not Web Portal. A Power BI report connecting to SQL Server is not supported to publish to Power BI report server (web portal).

Are you able to publish some other reports to service without any error?
