Unable to fetch ACID Property table from hdinsight spark to Power BI

Hi All,

We are facing one issue in importing a Hive table in PowerBI.  We have created one Hive managed table with Transaction Property = TRUE.  But while importing this table in PowerBI, we got the below error:

ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][Hardy] (35) Error from server: error code: '0' error message: 'java.lang.RuntimeException: serious problem'. Details:     DataSourceKind=Spark

Please help us to resolve this issue.

Hi @YasmeenShaik ,

Do you use the 64-bit and latest version of Power BI Desktop(2.83.5894.721) to connect to the data source? Please follow the guide in this blog to connect to Hive data source by installing Microsoft Hive ODBC Driver and check if you get any errors.

Yingjie Li

Hi Yingjie Li,

Thank you for your response.

We have already connected the data using ODBC and installed ODBC gateway. It is working fine.

But we want to know why this particular table is not getting loaded into Power BI when other tables are not causing any error.

What could be the issue and how to resolve it without using ODBC.

Hi @YasmeenShaik ,

The ODBC driver doesn't support if the HIVE definition create a logical object eg. view, external table etc. in conjunction with the use of a custom JSON SerDe.

Best Regards,
Yingjie Li
