Unable to connect ODBC Error [08001]

Hi

I am new to Power BI and I am trying to connect a data source through ODBC to Power Bi. The ODBC drivers are set up in Admin tools but when I go through setting the connection up in Power Bi I get:

Unable to Connect. "ODBC: ERROR [08001] FATAL: password authentication failed for user....". I know that the password is correct.

The same error also occured in Excel after moving from 2016 to 365. This has been overcome by ensuring legacy wizards was on in the options and using the "Get Data - Legacy Wizard" option.

Any assistance to overcome this issue would be great.

Thanks

Kate

Hi @Anonymous ,

Which data source would you like to connect to?

You may have to download the ODBC driver you need from Microsoft or from a third party.

You may also have to look up the required connection info that you have to provide. This third-party site - The Connection Strings Reference - contains sample connection strings and more info about data providers and the connection info they require.

See more: Connect to an ODBC Data Source (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard), Connect to data using generic interfaces in Power BI Desktop.

You can also try to upgrade the Power BI Desktop to the latest version.

Best Regards,

Amy
