Trouble connecting to Power BI datasets (services) from Desktop

Hi all,

I have published a dataset to reporting services (Redshift connection using DirectQuery), when I myself go to connect to that same data set again via Power-BI data sets, that works fine.

However, noone else within that same workspace seems to be able to do so. How would I set this up so that my co-workers can work my published data set within Power BI desktop?

Hi @jjlek

As tested, if i publish a dataset using DirectQuery to Power BI Service,

without adding the data source under the gateway and adding the users as users of the gateway,

the users has no acess to the dataset, so they can't connect to the power bi service dataset via Power BI Desktop.

After setting it correctly, it works.

Best Regards
Maggie

Hi @jjlek

First, what error do you meet?

Second, check steps for using the Power BI service live connection.

Please note:

  • Only users with Build permission for a dataset can connect to a published dataset using the Power BI service live connection. Learn more about setting the Build permission.

Lastly, do you add the data source (direct query connection) under the gateway, and add the users (who connect to the shared dataset) under the gateway?

Best Regards
Maggie
