@Anonymous ,
You can use table visual and dax function UNICHAR() to achieve this. For more details, I would suggest you refer to the tutorial below:

Hi @parry2k thanks for this. I've read the info in the link and it appears to show up/down based on how the latest data compares to last year.
Under analytics we can chose to show a trend line for a time series.
This trend line applies to the date range selected, not to eg previous year as I understand .
Is it possible to replace that with a simple arrow to denote whther the trend is up or down for the time period selected?
Eg user selects spend for 01/01/2020 to 20/02/2020 and the spend "trend" is "up"
Many thanks

So try this:
In the IF statement you saw in the link of the previous post, use the ALLSELECTED function inside of the IF statement. That way it will only evaluate the IF statement on the data that you want. ALLSELECTED works on the data affected by page filters. Apply filters to the page by dragging variables into the FILTER PANE on the right side of the desktop app.
I think this will get you to where you need to be, or at least POINTS you in the right direction (arrow pun).
@Anonymous can you share sample pbix with exepcted output and will get you the solution.
