I have 11 calculated measures. These measures act as KPIs and are reviewed weekly (every Thursday). How can I associate a date to these measures weekly so that when I create a viz (e.g., a bar chart) I am able to capture the trend over time.
@rlewis Create an Enter data query and enter the information from the measures? There's no good way of doing this unless you have the historical data in the data (all the past weeks).
@Greg_Deckler I am not familiar with the solution you mentioned. The latter half of your response is what is concerning me. Up until this point, we were hardcoding the value into another location in our platform and created a table that pulls the measures from there. There is no "historical data" other than these values we have already saved. They are not driven through the Power BI dataset we have. The dataset we do have is now robust enough to handle calculating these measures, but there in lies the issue of the timestamp and capturing the measure for that day as well as the historic measures.
@rlewis It's difficult for me to grasp what you are doing because it sounds bizarre. Here is how it is supposed to work. You have data:
1/1/2021 | blue | 10 |
1/1/2021 | red | 20 |
1/1/2021 | blue | 30 |
2/1/2021 | blue | 5 |
2/1/2021 | red | 40 |
You have some measures "Total Value = SUM('Table'[Value])". You put this into a visualization with your Date field as the axis, maybe category (red/blue) as the Legend and your Total Value measure as the Values. Presto, you have measures calculated over a historical range.
I can't even begin to grasp what you are trying to do exactly or why.
@Greg_Deckler ok, so this essentially looks like we take the measure value for that day, tie it to the date in another table that we create for this purpose, and we can capture it that way both historically and moving forward.
The reason we are doing what we were doing is complicated and too much to explain, but the logic makes sense.
