Text to date in query editor

I recently loaded a new data set into Power BI, and the date column is in the text format "11/10/2015 20:09:44". In query editor, I can change the format to date/time, but I need the column to be in Date format. When I tell it to move to Date format, the entire column simply shows "Error" and says "DataFormat.Error: We couldn't parse the input provided as a Date value."

Does anyone know why this is?

With your Datetime Column, select AddColumn Date -- Date Only  or Transform - Date - Date Only

Yes, because it's date/time and not just date.

as @Vvelarde already suggested:

You can first apply date/time format and then - on the Transform tab at the right hand side - choose "Date" - "Date Only", which will convert your date/times to dates.
