Taking lot of time to refresh the large file

Hi friends,

I am facing a weird issue with Power BI desktop. I have a PBIX with file size around 1GB and ~60M records with import connection. It takes me around 3 to 4 hours to refresh locally and almost same time on Power BI service through gateway however one of US counterpart it takes 1 to 1.5 hours, she is based out of California.

Below are the some details which can help you understand the problem more:

Power BI Data Center - US East Region

Snowflake (Data source) Data Center - US East Region

Gateway machine - Located in SF, California

What could be the possible reasons for having differences in refresh time? If me being in India and accessing data center hosted in US East Region then why is that taking same time through gateway since that is also located in US.

Hi @ashok_yadav

There'are many reasons which could cause this problem, please refer to below advices:

1. There's no sufficient memory

2. The number of supported concurrent refreshes for the Premium capacity is not exceeded

3. Check the metric app if many refreshes happening at the same time

4. Use incremental refresh to shorten the refresh duration

5. Take advantage of query folding

6, Move the dataset to another workspace

7, Take advantage of query caching

8. Complicated DAX expression

9, Optimize your model

Thank you @parry2k  for such a quick response. I would like to confirm that both Power BI tenant admin and Snowflake data center is lcoated in same region (US East).
