Static month over month data capture from dynamic dataset

Hi Power BI Community -

I'm rather new to Power BI, and need assistance determining how to statically capture monthly key indicators from may dataset to be able to perform month over month comparisons. The Excel dataset the Power BI report is based on is dynamic and data is refreshed/added to it frequently, so I'm trying to determine a way to take a "screenshot" of where the data stands on a monthly basis.

Any advice for how to perform this task would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Anonymous ,

In other words, each update will overwrite the previous data, you want to keep the historical data of each month, right?

I am afraid that Power BI cannot achieve the idea at present.

You can append the new data below instead of modifying the existing rows when entering data in the data source.

Hi @v-lionel-msft

Thank you for your help. You are correct that upon refreshing the data, this will overwrite the previous data instead of keeping the historical data for each month.

If I wanted to append the new data instead of modifying the existing rows as you suggest, how would I go about doing this? I know how to append data when setting up the data connection, but how do I set up a data source to append upon refresh?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I mean you should do this.

In the data source, the data is updated by appending instead of overwriting.
