Stacked column chart does not allow more than 1 column

Capture.JPG

See image. When I add more years in the column, it doesnt allow more than 1, but just replace it. When I remove column series, it allows more column, but it freeze, when I add column series again 😞

Hi @Asieh,

From your screenshot, you are creating a Line and stacked column chart, which is a combo chart. The combo chart in Power BI Desktop only allows one field in Column Value section when you have column series, and as your post, once you add multiple fields in Column Value section, you are not able to add column series. A similar idea about this issue has been submitted in this link, please vote it up.

In your scenario, you would need to create two charts side by side with each one has different field in Column Value section and has same column series. Alternatively, you can create the combo chart that has same column series and multiple fields in Column Value section in Excel, then pin the chart to Power BI Service dashboard following the guide in this article: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-pin-a-tile-to-a-dashboard-from-exc... .

Thanks,

hello Lydia,

Thanks for replying. No it is not stacked line column chart. THis is a basic Stacked column chart which is faulty as it does not accept more than 1 column.

I also tried and played with line stacked column and with that too, it does not allow more than 1 column but as many line as I like.

Not sure if Microsoft help staff are aware of the fault with their main charts?!

Regards

Asieh

Hi @Asieh,

If you create basic Stacked column chart, the screenshot should be as follows. Similarly, Power BI Desktop only allows one field in Value section when you have Legend, once you add multiple fields in Value section, you are not able to add Legend. Please vote the idea in my original reply.

In your scenario, you would need to create two charts side by side with each one has different field in Value section and has same Legend.

Thanks,
