Sql Server Analysis Services and Direct Query with Power BI

Hi All,

Does anyone if is possible to  publish dasboards with  Power BI using SQL  Analysis Services  as Data Source for connecting to a multidimensional cube and Direct Query as Connection Method?

I am able to create dashobards using  mentioned Data Source and Connection Method with Power BI Desktop but get a  gateway issue when viewing these dashboards in our Power BI site ( all dashboards are empty because of connection issues) . I tried to install a gateway as suggested but same problem still persists.

According to below link SQL Server Analysis Services is not allowed with Direct Query as connection method but looks a bit strange because I already used  succesfully this solution both in Pyramid BI and Tableau

https://docs.microsoft.com/es-es/power-bi/desktop-directquery-data-sources

Because of nature of our business we would need to use Direct Query as connection Method and not Import method due to with Import Method we would need to  manually update dashboards to show daily  new info added to our  multidimensional cube and this is far away to be a feasible solution for us.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me  with this.

Regards,

Manuel

Hi @manu271182 ,

For this question, it is supported to connect to SSAS Multidimensional model with DirectQuery mode in Power BI currently. You can post your new idea here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas , to improve the Power BI.

While you can choose Connect live mode, you can refer to the document https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-ssas-multidimensional .

The connect live mode needn't to refresh manually, you can learn more:https://radacad.com/live-connection-when-power-bi-comes-hybrid.
