Sourcing from OneDrive for Business - Invalid Credentials - No OAuth2

Hello,

I am running into issues refreshing data files sourced from OneDrive for Business.  The PowerBI Refresh service indicates that the web credentials are invalid.  For reference, I am following this doc guide (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-use-onedrive-business-links).

I can connect to the files in PowerBI Desktop and authenticate with 'Use Organizational Account'.  However, after publishing the PBI-Desktop to the PowerBI.com service the web credentials are invalid, and there is no option to use OAuth2 as indicated by the guide.  The only options are Anonymous, Windows, and Basic.  Have I possible sourced the files incorrectly?  Are there potentially security restrictions preventing OAuth2 from being used?  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi @drbaumgartne,

Sorry for some confuse description on above post.

For report who contains mixed datasource(online and on premise models in same report), current it support to refresh on mixed datasource on service side, but if you do some advanced operations, oauth authorization mode for online datasource will disappeared on service side.(advanced operation for mixed datasource still by design)

Please take a look at following idea to know more about this:

Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources

The initial support will enable refreshing datasets that connect to Online and On-prem sources but that do not “mash up” data between them. (i.e. no Merge/Append or other query references involved).

Hope above can help you clear this scenario.

HI @drbaumgartne,

I can connect to excel files which stored in onedrive and configure refresh on power bi service.

I think you may apply some additional operations in query edit, right?(e.g. merge/combine operate, custom function, calculate with other tables from onedrive or other datasource)

If this is a case, current power bi service not support these additional operations on web connector with oauth authorization.

@v-shex-msft

Correct, I do merging, appending, and custom calculated columns via the query editor.

Is there a different way that I should be sourcing data that allows the query editor to be used?  This seems like a pretty glaring deficiency in functionality.  Further the documentation should indicate that the query editor cannot be used if sourcing with the web connector.  Lastly, is there a way to recommend this as a future functionality improvement?

Thanks,
Dave
