Sort Visual in Status Order - not alphabetical order

Hi!

Have a Details file with a field called 'Status'.

Manually added a new table called Status_Table (see below) that has 'Status' and 'StatusSort'. StatusSort is format whole number:

StatusStatusSort
Submitted1
In Review2
Assign to Team Williams3
Assign to Team Hoffmann4
Assign to Team Michaels5
Rejected6

Then set the Sort by column for this table to 'StatusSort':

StatusSort.jpg

In relationships tab, connected Status from the Details table to the StatusTable:

In clustered column chart visual, using StatusTable field 'Status':

StatusSort3.jpg

In visual, Status continues to sort alphabetically instead of in StatusSort order. Any thoughts on to what piece is missing?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @luvagoldenk9 ,

You could apply the [StatusSort] to Tooltip pane and sort by it like this:

Here is the pbix file.

Hi,

have you checked if the visual is sorted by the order status > ascending ? Perhaps it is currently still sorted by a different column/measure instead.

Hi Tim!

The visual was still showing the data in alpha Status order. So starting rethinking the whole process and went to add more data through the power app. Did a refresh to the Power BI report and now the Status shows in the correct order.

Thank you for your response as it helped me rethink it through. Have a great day!

Download sample PBIX with solution

On the Axis you need to add the Status from the Status_Table, not the one from the Details table

Hi Phil,

Yes I was using the Status from the StatusTable so that is why it was so confusing. I thought of adding more data to the list so used the developed Power App to add more data. Came back to the Power BI dashboard and hit 'Refresh' and now the Status sorts correctly. Thank you for diagrams as that helped to confirm it is accurate. Have a great day!
