Slow updating reports

Good:

I'm new to both the forum and the Power BI world, I'm a systems administrator, and I run into the next problem.

I had a gateway pointing to our production database installed on a laptop so if you turn off that laptop stop updating the reports, we made the change to a virtual machine and installing the gateway pointing to our database our surprise has been that before it took 4 or 5 minutes to update the dataset and now being in a vitual machine with higher performance take 15 Minutes.

Thank you very much, a greeting.

Hi @Syndicate_Admin ,

In Power BI Service, it depends on several factors that how long a refresh will take.

1. The size of data model in the dataset.
2. The complexity of data model.
3. The network connection between Gateway and data source.
4. The network connection between the Gateway and Power BI Service.
4. CPU & Memory resource in the machine that installing gateway.

In your scenario, gateway and database are on the same location, I would recommend you check if there are resource bottlenecks, network bottlenecks.

Best Regards,
Liang

Good

Both the laptop that had the gateway and the virtual machine are both on the same network and physical site, in fact on our servers we have Fiber connections and the laptop was with a network cable.

If I clear the BBDD and the virtual machine with the Gateway are on the same server.

@Syndicate_Admin , is the virtual machine is in the same region as your Databases/source. Check for any issues with data speed.

The machine is on the same Esxi server
