Slicer which when selected will automatically select a range

Hi,

I have a dashboard which contains a list of organisation names, but these exist within a hierarchy, e.g. all organisations belong to a region, and all regions belong to a country.

I would like to be able to have users select an organisation and have my visualisations automatically show the organisation selected, the region and also the country too.

The regions and country are all in the same list of organisations names, e.g.

England

Country

London

Region

South West

Region

South East

Region

South West London Healthcare Partnership

Organisation

Kent and Medway STP

Organisation

So, if I selected Kent and Medway STP I would automatically get South East and England as parent and grandparent in the hierarchy under which Kent and Medway STP 'sits'.

Does this make sense? I would imagine I'll need to create a table that shows the parent and grandparent for each organisation, but assuming that can be done quite simply, is the thing that I am hoping to achieve then possible?

Thanks,

RW

Hey RW,

wouldn't you want a dimension such as this:

OrganisationRegionCountry
Kent and Medway STPSouth EastEngland
South West London Healthcare PartnershipSouth WestSome Bogus Country

In this way, when you add this to a hierarchy slicer, you would get the required levels.

Hi @Buckswriter

The solution highly recommend is to modify your data structure, you can use the structure bellow,

@Buckswriter , with the current data the hierarchy does not make sense. How do we reach to region based on the above data?
