I have a model in which I can place a slicer using the default slicer on a page that shows a (BLANK) value even with no other visuals on the page. If I use a custom visual slicer, such as the hierarchical slicer and the chiclet slicer, I do not see the same behavior.
I've verified that there are no blank values in any column in the dimension table (there are only 5 columns); I verified that my query against the original data (an Excel spreadsheet tab that is a sheet not a table) removed all blank rows.
The reference table is a dimension table with single one-to-many relationships to multiple (8) fact tables. I've seen posts referencing relationships with blank values in the joins and have not been able to find any in this model. It also seems unlikely that relationship issues would impact what I'm seeing since I'm not referencing any other tables on this report page (there are no visuals except the slicer).
I can remove the blank by adding a filter to the slicer and slecting all but the blank value in the filter, but I wanted to make sure I understand *why* I'm seeing this behavior to ensure that I'm not just masking a problem that may rear its head later...
